Tips to Prolong the Lifespan of Your Roof

Most traditional asphalt roofs are designed to last between 10 and 25 years. The lifespan that you get out of your roof really comes down to the way that you care of your roof and the quality of the labor/materials that you get. Here are some tips that you can use to extend the lifespan of your roof:

Regularly clean your gutters:

You need to clean out your gutters once a year at minimum in order to make sure that there is no standing water or damage to your roofing materials. Getting a professional gutter cleaner can help to prevent issues. You may need to clean out your gutters more regularly if there are trees nearby with heavy debris.

Stay off your roof:

Every time that you walk across your roof you could be potentially removing shingle granules. Walking on your roof can cause unnecessary strain for the roofing structure and it is wise to minimize activity on your roof when possible.

Get regular roofing inspections especially after storms:

If you have had a severe storm in your area it’s a good idea to consider getting a quick roofing inspection to spot the signs of damage and to patch up any holes or leaks early on before further damage occurs.

Fix any leaks as soon as possible:

If you start to notice any pooling water or drips inside your home you’re going to need to fix up the damaged roof as soon as possible. A broken shingle or an area where water is allowed into your home can compromise your entire roofing structure. Getting regular maintenance and inspections at least once every five years can help to prevent major repairs.

Keep some of these top ideas in my so that you can prolong the lifespan of your roof and prevent major damage to your roofing structure for the future.
